Covenant Presbyterian Church is a small church with a big dream. Our dream is linked to God's eternal plan. We seek to be used by Him in the building of His kingdom here locally and around the world (Acts 1:8). God's Word, the Bible, tells us that "the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9). Sounds impossible. "But with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26). Since God never lies, we trust that promise and want to be used by Him to help make it happen. We have in view a new heaven and a new earth as promised by God (Revelation 21:1-5).
God's eternal plan is our dream; Christ's great commission, the method of getting us there. Jesus Christ our Savior and King said, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:18-20). The earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as Christians fulfill Christ's great commission - going and making disciples.
In that process, Christ never intended us to communicate a Gospel without content (the facts of our faith), that's why He said that in the making of disciples "teach them all I have commanded you." So we at Covenant are highly committed to Christian education and edification through the preaching and teaching of God's Word. As Christians who trace our heritage back to the reformation and the teachings of grace, we believe the Bible to be the very Word of God and therefore place great emphasis on the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. The preaching of the Word of God is central to our Sunday worship service. Through it the church is spiritually fed and nourished by the Spirit of God.
All of this is done to foster not just a knowledge of the Lord, but a heart for Him and for one another. We desire to love others sacrificially as Christ has loved us; He died on the cross for us and calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. So buried within our dream is to increase our acts of love and mercy not only to our members but to our neighbors in obedience to Christ. (Mark 12:28-31)
... for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. - Isaiah 11:9
